Scuba Equipment FAQs
Questions and Answers
| How do I know what size scuba gear to purchase? | ^TOP | |
| The Scuba Diver Store suggests not to buy things that need to “fit” on the web unless you have personally tried on the product elsewhere and are now price shopping for the best deal, which you will get from TheScubaDiverStore.com! If you have had a boot, a glove or a wetsuit that now needs replacement because of wear and tear and you like it and it fits … get a new one from us, TheScubaDiverStore.com! Otherwise, if you are in the Southeastern Wisconsin area, please visit our storefront location in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to try on your suit, gloves, or boots. | ||
| What thickness wetsuit should I get? | ^TOP | |
The thickness of a scuba diving wetsuit is determined upon what location you are diving in, what temperature the water will be, and do you get cold easy? For Example: If tropical … then as little as a Lycra body suit (T-shirt for the people that live in Cudahy) or 3mm wetsuit … BUT The Scuba Diver Store also has customers that freeze so they wear a 6mm wetsuit in the Bahamas. So it all depends on your body make up and your tolerance for cold. |

| Why are your Scuba Diver Store prices so reasonable? | ^TOP | |
| The Scuba Diver Store simply wants you as a returning customer so we keep things simple. Every product is priced at the lowest price the manufacturer will allow (yes they actually tell us what that lowest price should be). The Scuba Diver Store keeps our overhead as low as possible … and we also turn the lights off at night to save money! | ||
| Why do I need scuba diving gloves? | ^TOP | |
In cold water, even people that don’t get cold hands during a snowball fight will get cold hands while scuba diving. Plus after anytime under the water your skin becomes softer and is easily cut, so gloves are more for protection than warmth. The Scuba Diver Store suggests 5mm gloves for divers that get cold and 3mm gloves for divers that can handle a little cold. It is a trade off of dexterity lost versus warmth gained or visa versa. In warm water, it is strictly a matter of protection mostly for you if you touch something (WHICH YOU SHOULDN"T). In fact most boat dive captains and dive masters will not let you take gloves so that it keeps you from wrecking coral, etc. |
